titleOfInvention Boron esters and their use in a process for synthesis of coenzymes q
abstract 1529326 Boron esters and benzoquinones prepared therefrom EISAI CO Ltd 21 Nov 1975 [22 Nov 1974] 47905/75 Headings C2B and C2C A boron ester of a 1,4-benzohydroquinone of formula where R is a group in which S is O or 1-11 and A and B are each H or together form a direct bond, is prepared by reacting a boron ester of 2,3-dimethoxy-5- methyl-1,4-benzohydroquinone with a prenol or isoprenol or reactive derivative thereof. The ester reactant may be obtained by reaction of the 2,3,5-substituted hydroquinone with H 3 BO 3 , HBO 2 , B 2 O 3 or borax and may also be of the type the free OH groups of which may be further esterified with the hydroquinone compound. Pharmaceutically active benzoquinones of formula are prepared by reacting a boron ester of a 1,4- benzohydroquinone II with a mild oxidant such as silver oxide, lead oxide or ferric chloride.
