titleOfInvention Thickening aqueous brine by crosslinking cellulose polymers therein
abstract 1528258 Brine thickened with cross-linked cellulose HERCULES Inc 10 Aug 1976 [11 Aug 1975] 33264/76 Heading C3V [Also in Division E1] An aqueous brine solution is thickened by mixing with at least 0À025 wt.% based on the solution of carboxymethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose, and cross-linking said cellulose derivative in the solution with a polyvalent metal cation, the cellulose having a carboxymethyl D.S. is 0À2 to 0À6 and a hydroxyethyl M.S. is 1À5 to 3À0, and the metal cation being provided as a salt in which the metal cation is present in the same cationic valence state as the cross-linking cation species. The thickened brine solutions are used for pumping into oil wells. In the examples, use is made of chromium ions Cr<SP>3+</SP>.
