titleOfInvention | Sweetening compositions containing arabinogalactan |
abstract | 1525131 Artificial sweeteners TATE & LYLE Ltd 23 June 1976 [4 July 1975 (2)] 28217/75 and 28232/75 Heading A2B [Also in Divisions A5 and C6] An artificial sweetener comprises (a) a protein sweetener, e.g. thaumatin or monellin, and/or saccharin and (b) arabinogalactan, the ratio of arabinogalactan to saccharin not exceeding 1:1, and preferably 1:5 to 1:1, when saccharin is the only sweetener present. When the protein is the only sweetener present the ratio of arabinogalactan to protein should be x : 12 to x : 70 where x is the no. of times sweeter the protein is compared with sucrose at 5% concentration, i.e. 290 : 1 to 50:1 for thaumatin and 67:1 to 11:1 for monellin. Also present may be additional sweeteners e.g. sucrose, glucose, fructose or cyclamate; sweetness modifiers e.g. xylitol, D-arabitol, D-galactose, L-gulose, D-fucose, lactulose, glucoheptose, or D(+) galactosamine; solid or liquid carriers or diluents e.g. maltodextrin, starch, nutritive protein (e.g. soy), or sucrose, or ethanol, glycerol or edible oil for applying the sweetener by spraying; NaCI such that the weight ratio of saccharin to NaCl is 10:1 to 10:4; and Ca(OH) 2 such that the ratio of saccharin to Ca(OH) 2 is 100:1 to 100:5. The sweetener may be in tablet form. It may be used in soft drinks, candies, juices, syrups, squashes, sauces, condiments, salad dressings, ice cream, sherbert, icing, gelatin, chewing gum, toothpaste or mouthwashes. |
