titleOfInvention Photographic processing in presence of image intensifying agent
abstract 1524438 Intensifying images in silver halide materials FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 21 July 1976 [23 July 1975] 30255/76 Heading G2C An exposed silver halide material is processed in the presence of a reducing agent and at least one intensifying agent selected from (a) halogenous acids and water soluble salts thereof, (b) chlorine dioxide and (c) peroxides, using a bath comprising at least one nitrogen-containing heterocyclic antifoggant having no mercapto group and at least 1 x 10<SP>-4</SP> gram ions of bromide per litre. The intensifying agent may be chlorous or bromous acid; chlorites or bromites of an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium; hydrogen peroxide, a peroxoborate, peroxocarbonate, peroxosilicate, peroxophosphate or a perbenzoic acid salt. The intensifying agent is present in the bath or in the material. The reducing agent when oxidized forms a coloured compound or couples with another compound to form a coloured product. The bromide ions are derived from a salt containing K, Na, Li, Mg, Ca, or NH 4 , KBr being used in the Examples. Specified anti-foggants are (1) compounds containing 2 or 3 nitrogen atoms in a five membered ring, optionally fused to a benzene ring and preferably substituted by methyl, ethyl, nitro, bromo, hydroxy, aralkyl and amino groups, though other substituents are possible; (2) a compound of Formula: - in which R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are H, alkyl, aralkyl, alkenyl, aryl, NH 2 , NO 2 , OH or halogen, R<SP>5</SP> is H or alkyl, and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> may be fused to form a benzene ring; and (3) compounds of Formula:- in which A is optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aralkyl, an alicyclic hydrocarbon residue or optionally substituted aryl, B is a divalent hydrocarbon group which may be substituted or interrupted by a hetero atom e.g. O, Z completes an optionally fused heterocyclic ring and X is an anion other than iodide. The bath may be an intensifying bath, a developing/intensifying bath or a mono-bath i.e. developing/intensifying/fixing.
