abstract | 1524018 Thixotropic plastics dispersions HOECHST AG 6 May 1977 [7 May 1976] 19086/77 Heading C3 A thixotropic dispersion for use in paints comprises (a) one or more aqueous synthetic plastics dispersions containing a copolymer of two or more alpha, beta ethylenic compounds, which copolymerizate contains 0À35-7 wt. per cent (based on the total copolymerizate) of acetoacetate groups, (b) a protective colloid containing hydroxyl groups, (c) a heavy metal chelate, and optionally (d) one or more other coating composition adjuvants. Suitable copolymerizates are derived from vinyl acetoacetate, allyl acetoacetate or an ethylene- or propylene glycol diester in which one -OH group is esterified with acetoacetic acid and the other with acrylic, methacrylic or crotonic acid. The preferred protective colloid is hydroxyethyl cellulose, and other adjuvants are an emulsifier, a plasticizer, a preserving agent, an antifoam, a pH stabilizer, a rust preventer or a flow assistant. Suitable heavy metal chelates are alkanolamine titanates or zirconates, titanium lactonate or titanium acetoacetate and chelates of beta diketones and #-keto acid esters. |
