titleOfInvention Manufacture of polyester-imide powders
abstract 1522209 Preparing polyesterimide powder BASF AG 18 Dec 1975 [20 Dec 1974] 51792/75 Heading C3R A polyesterimide powder is prepared by forming a 5-60% by weight solution of the polymer in an organic solvent having a freezing point of from -30 to + 20‹ C., cooling the solution to a temperature below the freezing point of the solvent, removing the solvent by sublimation under reduced pressure and pulverizing the solid product. The polyesterimides powder having a particle diameter of less than I Á may be incorporated in an aqueous dispersion containing 20-60% by weight of the polymer and 80-40% by weight of water. The Example describes preparing a powder of a polyesterimide derived from dimethyl terephthalate, trimellitic anhydrides, diaminodiphenylmethane, ethylene glycol and tris-hydroxyethyl isocyanurate by the above process using dioxane as the solvent, and forming an aqueous dispersion of the powder containing a suspension stabilizer (vinylpyrrolidone-vinylpropionate copolymer), a surfaceactive agent (polyvinylalcohol), a thickener (polyvinylpyrrolidone), an anti-thixotropic agent (triethanolamine) and a curing catalyst (triethanolamine titanate). The aqueous dispersion may be used to coat copper wires.
