abstract | 1522061 Laundry composition RHONE POULENC INDUSTRIES 21 April 1976 [23 April 1975] 16175/76 Heading C5D [Also in Divisions C3 and D1] An antisoiling or anti-redeposition composition for treating textile fabrics, particularly polyester fabrics, comprises a detergent and a hydrophilic polyurethane which is the product of the sumultaneous reaction of (i) 10-45% by weight of an organic diisocyanate, and (ii) 89-35% by weight of (a) 100 to 75% by weight of a compound of the general formula R-(OC 2 H 4 ) n OH where R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical containing less than 20 carbon atoms, and n is an integer such that the molecular weight is from 300 to 10,000 and (b) 0 to 25% by weight of a diol having a molecular weight less than 300, and (iii) 1-20% by weight of a compound of the formula R<SP>1</SP> NX 1 X 2 , where R<SP>1</SP> is an alkyl radical containing less than 5 carbon atoms and each of X 1 and X 2 is a hydroxyalkyl or aminoalkyl radical, the tertiary nitrogen in (iii) being optionally quaternized before or after reaction with the diisocyanate, the overall ratio of NCO/reaction hydrogen being at least 0.7 but less than 1, and the percentages of components (i), (ii) and (iii) being based on the total weight of components (i), (ii) and (iii). The detergents may be anionic, non-ionic, cationic, ampholytic or zwitterionic and contain conventional ingredients. In the Examples hydrophilic polyurethanes prepared by reacting (A) toluene diisocyanate or di(4-isocyanato-phenyl) methane, (B) polyoxyethylene glycol alone or together with either ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol or a mixture of ethylene glycol and an ethoxylated nonylphenol, and (C) N- methyldiethanolamine, followed by quaternization of the tertiary nitrogen with either dimethylsulphate, benzyl chloride or lauryl bromide are added to aqueous detergent compositions which are either non-ionic or anionic and comprise an ethoxylated long-chain alcohol, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium orthophosphate, sodium pyrophosphate, sodium perborate, sodium sulphate, sodium disilicate and either a polysiloxane or a linear C 12 -alkyl-benzene sulphonate and natural tallow soap and optionally carboxymethyl-cellulose and the resulting solutions are used to wash and treat polyester/cotton fabrics. |
