titleOfInvention Agent for inhibiting cell growth
abstract The compounds correspond to the formula: <IMAGE> in which R2 represents the radical of a purine or pyrimidine base. They are prepared by converting uridine via 2'-azido-2'-deoxyuridine, 2-azido-2-deoxyribose, its 1-O-methylglycoside and the corresponding 3,5-diacetate into 1-O-methyl-2-azido-2-deoxyribose 1,3,5-triacetate, reacting the triacetate with a purine or pyrimidine base whose primary amino group is acylated, and eliminating the acyl group. The resulting compounds can be separated into the alpha and beta anomers. They are furthermore converted into the 2'-amino-2'-deoxy derivatives, into the 5'-phosphates and into the 2'-amino-5'-phosphates. The compounds inhibit the synthesis of the deoxyribonucleic acids and cell growth; they are suitable for the treatment of ulcers and, in particular, cancer, but also represent intermediates for the preparation of medicaments for cancer and viral infections.
