titleOfInvention Process for inhibiting foam formation
abstract 1520539 Foam inhibitor HENKEL K G AUF AKTIEN 16 Dec 1976 [22 Dec 1975] 52483/76 Heading B1 [Also in Divisions C2 C3 and C6] Foam formation is inhibited in a liquid by adding an α-hydroxyamine derivative of the general formula (I) wherein A= -NHCO-R<SP>3</SP>-CONH- or -NHCONH-R<SP>3</SP>-NHCONH-; R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP>= H or C 1 -C 22 alkyl, the total of C atoms in the radical R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> being 8-22 in each case; R<SP>3</SP>=C 2 -C 10 alkylene, aromatic, or alkylaromatic having C 1 -C 3 alkyl, or a polysiloxane radical of the general formula: (II) wherein n=2-3 and p=2-20. The derivative may be added in the form of a solution or fine particulate dispersion in an aqueous liquid or an oleylalcohol or mineral oil having a b.p. >140‹C and m.p. <5‹C; the dispersion possibly being formed by rapid cooling of the solution. Other known defoamers may also be added. Examples of the derivative are prepared in (Ex. 1) having a carbon chain distribution (R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP>) of c 20% C 9 , c 30% C 10 , c 30% C 11 and c 20% C 12 from an inner position α-hydroxyamine and hexamethylene diisocyanate; (Ex 2) by reacting polydimethylsiloxane dicarboxylic acid corresponding to n=2 and p=10 in formula II and an α hydroxyamine with a chain distributor (R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP>) of c 25%. C 13 , c 30% C 14 , c 30% C 15 , and c 15% C 16 ; and (Ex. 3) by reacting adipic acid with the α hydroxyamine of Ex. 1. Ex. 4-6 disclose respective dispersions of the product of Ex. 1-3 in mineral oil containing polyalkylene glycol stearate and aluminium stearate. Ex. 7 discloses a polyacrylate dispersion paints, containing the defoamed dispersions of Ex. 4-6.
