titleOfInvention Polyester compositions
abstract 1520426 Curable polyester compositions TEIJIN Ltd 10 July 1975 [11 July 1974 30 Sept 1974] 29120/75 Headings C3R and C3K A heat-curable solvent-soluble ester-groupcontaining polymer composition may be made by (1) either (i) reacting a high linear aromatic polyester (I) with a diaryl carbonate (II) to depolymerize it to a polyester (A), or (ii) performing (i) in the presence of (III) a compound ccntaining #2 functional groups (G), to yield a modified polyester (A<1>); and (2) either (i) mixing, or (ii) partially reacting, (A) or (A<1>) with a component (B) containing #2 reactive groups being -OH, -NH2, or -NH-. In step (1), 5-95% mole (II) are used based on moles dibasic acid contained in (I). In (A) and (A<1>), #30% moles of the terminal groups are aryl carboxylate groups. In (III), groups (G) are (a) COOH or derivative, (b) cyclic carboxylic anhydride or precursor; (c) -NH2 or -NH-; (d) -NCO or stabilized -NCO or precursor; (e) iminoacetic group or precursor; or (f) -OH. (B) is a monomeric or solvent-soluble polymeric compound, and may be formed by reacting 2 compounds of type (III) ; in (B) there may be amide, imide hydantoin, or ester bonds. Additional steps employing a component (C) being another reactive monomer or polymer containing amide, imide hydantoin, or ester linkages, may be performed between steps (1) and (2); or (C) and (A) or (A<1>) may be prepared in the same reactor simultaneously or successively in any order. The reaction(s) may be performed in solution and/or in the presence of an esterinterchange catalyst. A solution of the composition which may contain a curing catalyst, may be used as an insulating coating, e.g. for Cu wire or plates, or for impregnating glasscloth for mouldings or for laminate prepregs, or the composition may be used, powdered, as paint, hot-melt sealant, or moulding powder.
