abstract 1517362 Underwater breathing apparatus HYDRO-MEMBRONICS INC 20 Aug 1975 34617/75 Heading A5T [Also in Divisions B1 and Cl] Underwater breathing apparatus includes a separative barrier for the preferential transport of CO 2 from a mixture of CO 2 and other gases to water comprising a porous hydrophobic membranous element impregnated with a catalyst for hydration of CO 2 and exposed on opposite sides for direct contact with the water and the mixture respectively. The catalyst may comprise at least one anion selected from [B(OH) 4 ]<SP>-</SP>, H 3 SiO 4 <SP>-</SP>, H 3 GeO 4 <SP>-</SP>, HPO 4 <SP>- -</SP>, H 2 PO 4 <SP>-</SP>, HAsO 4 <SP>- </SP><SP>-</SP>, AsO 2 <SP>-</SP>, SO 3 <SP>- -</SP>, TeO(OH) 5 <SP>-</SP>, Te(OH 4 )O 2 <SP>- -</SP>, HTe O 3 <SP>-</SP>, CIO<SP>-</SP>, BrO<SP>-</SP>, SeO<SP>- -</SP>, and phenolate, or carbonic anhydrase. The membranous element may consist of P.T.F.E. or polypropylene, or of a woven polyester mono-filament fabric impregnated with a silicone or fluorocarbon resin.
