titleOfInvention Siliceous materials
abstract 1514922 Coated silica IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 June 1975 [19 June 1974] 27120/74 Heading C1A [Also in Division C3] Siliceous particles, especially precipitated silica, are reacted at the surface with a hydroxylcontaining unsaturated polymer, e.g. polybutadiene diol or liquid degraded polyisoprene. Reaction is stated to involve Si-OH groups at the said surface, and the proportion of such groups available for reaction may be increased by prior treatment of the particles. Reaction may be effected in the presence of a solvent, e.g. n-pentane, n-hexane, methylene chloride or perchloroethylene, and may be promoted by a catalyst, e.g. ammonia or n-butylamine. The products suitably contain 5-40 weight per cent of bound polymer, and are used as fillers for rubbers.
