titleOfInvention | Variable-fluence neutron source |
abstract | 1513986 Neutron source COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 1 Dec 1976 [17 Dec 1975] 50110/76 Heading G6P A variable intensity neutron source comprises an emitter, e.g. an α emitter in the form of a powder 7 which is immersed within a chamber 1 in a target fluid which reduces neutrons under the action of radiation from the emitter 1 and means whereby the emitter may be fluidised by the carrier fluid. The chamber ends are derived by filters 5, 6, and fluid is circulated through the chamber by an impeller 10 to produce sufficient dispersion of the powder in the fluid for the neutron intensity required. The emitter may be on oxide of cerium, plutonium, thorium, actinium, or americium and the fluid may include beryllium, boron, fluorine or oxygen 18. |
