abstract | 2,5,6,6-Tetramethylcyclohex-2-en-1-one conforming to formula 3 below is prepared by reacting 2,5,6-trimethylcyclohex-2-en-1-one with a methylating agent in an inert solvent and in the presence of a strong base at temperatures of from 20 to 150 DEG C. This compound is novel and can be used for the preparation of 1-acetyl-2,5,6,6-tetramethylcyclohex-1-ene conforming to the formula 1b below, which is likewise novel. In this preparation, the 2,5,6,6-tetramethylcyclohex-2-en-1-one is hydrogenated catalytically to 2,5,6,6-tetramethylcyclohexanone, which is ethynylated, and the resultant product is converted into 1-acetyl-2,5,6,6-tetramethylcyclohex-1-ene by acid-catalysed rearrangement at from 60 to 200 DEG C. The novel compounds can be used as scents (fragrances) or scent precursors. <IMAGE> |
