titleOfInvention Reaction products of hydrazides and certain unsaturated esters
abstract 1511217 Reaction products of hydrazides and unsaturated esters GENERAL TIRE & RUBBER CO 10 Feb 1977 [4 Nov 1976] 5614/77 Heading C3R Polymeric coatings are obtained by reacting with heating (a) a hydrazide containing a carbonyl group and having the Formula R R(C(O)-NH-NHR<1>)a where a is from 1 to 10, R is R<1>, -OR<1>, -NR<1>2, -NH NHR<1>, -C(0)- NHNHR<1> or a polyvalent organic radical and R<1> is hydrogen or a monovalent organic radical, with (b) an unsaturated organic ester having an average of at least 2 and up to 5 aliphatic double bonds activated by a carbonyl group. The unsaturated ester (b) may be an acrylate, fumarate, maleate or itaconate. On heating polymerization occurs by the double bonds opening and a carbon atom becoming linked to a nitrogen atom. In examples coatings are prepared by reacting trimethylolproane triacrylate and 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate with trimethyladipic acid hydrazide, by reacting trimethylolpropane triacrylate with benzhydrazide and with acethydrazide, by reacting 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate with adipic acid dihydrazide, by reacting acrylate-terminated polyurethane prepolymers blended with neopentylene glycol diacrylate and with trimethylol propane triacrylate, with adipic acid dihydrazide, trimethyladipic acid dihydrazide, benzoyl hydrazide and salicylhydrazide, and by reacting an aromatic fumarate with trimethyladipic acid dihydrazide; some of the compositions also contain hexamethoxymethylmelamine, a diglycidylether of tetrapropylene glycol and solvents.
