titleOfInvention Trycyclic acetic acid derivatives
abstract 1511169 Carboxylic acids derived from carbazole; cyclopent[b]indole and cyclohept[b]indole AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS CORP 29 Aug 1975 35696/75 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of Formula 1 and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts, wherein R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-6 alkyl, C 2-6 alkenyl or C 3-6 cycloalkyl; R<SP>2</SP> is H or C 1-6 alkyl; R<SP>3</SP> is H, halogen, CF 3 , CCl 3 , CBr 3 , OH, C 1-6 alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy or C 2-6 alkanoyloxy; R 4 is H or C 1-6 alkyl; and n is 2-4. These compounds are prepared by cyclizing the hydrazone (4) wherein R<SP>5</SP> is H or C 1-6 alkyl, giving (1) or its alkyl ester, and if desired introducing the alkyl group R<SP>4</SP>, and hydrolysing the alkyl group R<SP>6</SP> (if present). Therapeutic compositions which may be administered orally comprise the above acids (1), which have anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activity.
