titleOfInvention Polyester granules
abstract 1510803 Polyester granules TEIJIN Ltd 4 July 1975 [5 July 1974] 28384/75 Heading C3R A polyester granule (G) for melt shaping is made by cutting an unoriented melt-extrudate (E) of a difficulty-crystallizable copolyester (P), (E) having #intrisic #0À55, (P) having minimum half-crystallization time # minute, and (G) having in its cut surface an oriented portion having N#0À04, where N = n #/d, where #Ám is the wavelength of a light source, n is the number of double-refraction interference figures counted using a polarizing microscope, and d Ám is the thickness of a sample prepared by slicing (G) and including a part of the cut surface of (G) and where the interior of G has N#0À02. (E) may be cut under conditions such that Tg+ 30#t#Tg-15, where t‹ C. is the surface temperature of (E) extrudate and Tg‹ C. is the second order transition temperature of (E). Temperature t may be controlled by cooling with liquid or gas. The cutting edge may be heated to a temperature t<1‹>C. such that Tg+30#t<1>> Tg-30. (P) may be a copolyester of terephthalic acid, ethylene glycol, and 2-50% mole based on total acid of a third component (C), or a copolyester of naphthalene- 2,-dicarboxylic acid, ethylene glycol, and 0À6- 50% mol. of (C). In examples, (C) is diethylene glycol, neopentylene glycol, or isophthalic acid. The granules have little tendency to agglomerate, e.g. during drying.
