titleOfInvention Dosage form for the administration of a medicament to a moist body surface
abstract 1510569 Devices for administering medicaments percutaneously AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS CORP 2 July 1976 27752/76 Heading A5R A device for percutaneous administration of a medicament to a moist body surface comprises a moisture - impervious support member 12 formed from an inert flexible film, a recess 14 preformed in the film, a moistureactivatable adhesive 16 covering the film surface about the recess and a medicament 20 in the recess. More than one recess may be provided in the support member for administering different medicaments. A layer of moisture - impervious material, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), may be provided between the member 12 and adhesive 16. The adhesive may extend over the surface of the recess (as shown) and thus be used to hold the medicament or the surface of the recess may be free of adhesive Fig. 6 (not shown). The exposed medicament and the adhesive - coated surface may be covered with a protective layer 24 for transport and storage. The support member may be ethylcellulose, ethylmethylcellulose, or cellulose acetate phthalate and may include castor oil as a plasticiser, The adhesive may comprise a hydrocolloid mixed with a binder such as polyvinylpyrrolidone or may be karay gum in a viscous solution of polyvinylpyrrolidone and polyethylene glycol. The moisture - impervious layer may be an isobutylene - isoprene copolymer. The medicament may be pure or may be mixed with semi - solids or solids melting at body temperature, and may include adjuvants for controlling the pH and the rate of absorption of the medicament through the skin. The device may be used as a buccal tape and may be square, rectangular or circular.
