abstract | 1509339 Pet foods STAR-KIST FOODS INC 8 March 1976 09169/76 Heading A2B A canned pet food comprises 25-90% meat of which 20-100% is fish; 3-10% (dry weight) of chunks 0.1-1.5 inches in size of which 80-99% is hard, red or durum wheat flour or farina, 0.05-5% is glycerol monostearate and 0.05-15% is a flavouring which is cheese, a cheese flavouring agent, fish or fish by-products; and an aqueous medium. The food may also contain up to 10% soy meal and 5-40% vegetables e.g. corn, carrots, potatoes or beans. The cereal chunks may contain up to 2% colouring material and up to 5% fat e.g. lard, beef tallow or hydrogenated palm. cottonseed or peanut oil. Also 1-7% of a thickening agent, e.g. carboxymethyl cellulose, starch or whey, may be present in the aqueous medium. The cans may be retorted at 220- 275‹F for e.g. 60 minutes. The fish may be red tuna meat. The cereal chunks may be shaped by mixing with up to 30% water and may then be dehydrated and stored. |
