titleOfInvention Unsaturated phosphinates process for preparing them and their use
abstract 1508889 Phosphinates HOECHST AG 17 Oct 1975 [19 Oct 1974] 42717/75 Heading C2P The invention comprises compounds of formulae Ia and Ib wherein X is Cl, Br or OH, R 1 and R 2 are each C 1-8 aliphatic hydrocarbon (optionally substituted by Cl, Br, CN, OR<SP>4</SP>, CO 2 R<SP>4</SP> or CON(R<SP>4</SP>) 2 where R<SP>4</SP> is H, C 1-8 alkyl, or C 2-8 alkenyl, the latter optionally being substituted by Cl, Br or OH); alternatively R 2 is or where Y is Cl, Br, OH or C 2-8 alkoxy (optionally substituted by Cl, Br or OH), Z is a C 1-8 alkylene, phenylene or xylylene group (optionally substituted by Cl, Br or OH) and R<SP>3</SP> is H or Me. Preparation of the above is from glycidyl acrylate or methacrylate by reaction either (a) with a compound II or (b) with a compound IV optionally followed by compound V Compounds of formulae and (where X is Cl or OH) are prepared by reacting EtMeP(O)(X) with propylene oxide. Compounds Ia and Ib are used for flameproofing fibrous materials, e.g. textiles.
