abstract 1507543 Ethoxylated zwitterionic tetra-alkylammonium sulphonates PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 31 July 1975 [1 Aug 1974] 32083/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] Triethylene glycol is reacted with sodium and 1,2-bis-(2-chloroethoxy) ethane is added to the reaction product to produce nonaethylene glycol, which is reacted with tosyl chloride to give nonaethylene glycol ditosylate, which is reacted with dimethyloctadecylamine to yield the monoquaternary compound dimethyloctadecyl - 2,6 - tosyloxy - 3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24- octaoxahexacosylammonium tosylate and the corresponding diquaternary compound as byproduct. These two products were reacted with sodium sulphite to produce 26-dimethyloctadecylammonio - 3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24 - octaoxahexacosane-1-sulphonate. Di-n-octylamine is methylated by reaction with formic acid and formaldehyde. The product is reacted with nonaethylene glycol ditosylate to give a mixture of the mono- and diquaternary compounds, which are reacted with sodium sulphite to produce 20-dioctylmethylammonio - 3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24 - octaoxahexacosane-1-sulphonate. Tri-n-octylamine is reacted with nonaethylene glycol ditosylate to produce a mixture of mono- and di-quaternary compounds, which are reacted with sodium sulphite to yield trioctylammonio - 3,6,9,12,15,21,24 - octahexacosane-1-sulphonate.
