titleOfInvention Dithiophosphate ester derivatives and their use for stabilizing organic material
abstract 1506917 Dithiophosphate esters SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 30 Sept 1975 39983/75 Heading C2P [Also in Division C5] The invention comprises compounds I of the general formula wherein R 1 is alkyl, R 2 is an alkylene group, R 3 and R 4 are hydrocarbyl groups with the proviso that at least one of these groups is an alkaryl group, and n is an integer, preferably 1 or 2. They may be obtained by reacting a corresponding salt of the formula wherein M is a metal ion, e.g. Na, with an aralkyl halide of the formula wherein X is a halogen atom, e.g. Cl. The compound O<SP>1</SP>,O<SP>1</SP> - di - 1 - dodecyl - S - (3,5- di - t - butyl - 4 - hydroxy)benzyldithiophosphate is also prepared in an analogous manner for comparative purposes. The compounds (I) are useful as stabilizers of organic materials susceptible to oxidative deterioration, e.g. mineral oils, lubricating oils, fuels, functional fluids, and plastics, e.g. polypropylene, polyethylene and natural or synthetic rubbers.
