titleOfInvention | Process for the manufacture of formyl compounds |
abstract | 1505937 Formyl esters F HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO AG 8 July 1976 [9 July 1975] 28446/76 Heading C2C Esters of formula wherein R 1 is alkyl (1-6 C), are prepared by (1) treating wherein R 2 is hydrogen or alkyl (1-6 C) with a ring-opening agent, e.g. a de-alcoholating/ isomerization agent such as sulphonic acids, carboxylic acids and Lewis acids, or a catalytic amount of amine hydrohalide and (II) by treatment with a halogenating agent to yield wherein X represents a halogen atom, converting to the quaternary salt by treatment with ammonia, an alkyl substituted aliphatic amine, an aromatic amine or a heterocyclic amine wherein Y represents the quaternary group, converting to and isomerizing to the desired ester. The pyran derivatives used as the starting material are prepared from where Q represents a formyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl, hydroxymethyl or a lower acyloxymethyl, prepared by reacting with in the presence or absence of a solvent at from -15‹ C. to 200‹ C., e.g. by reacting 1-ethoxy- 1,3-pentadiene with n-butyl glyoxylate or glyoxal. The esters of Formula I, are intermediates or the synthesis of vitamin A. |
