titleOfInvention | Process for producing phosphate coatings on iron or steel using a spray method |
abstract | 1500035 Phosphating ferrous surfaces GERHARD COLLARDIN GmbH 1 April 1975 [13 April 1974 7 Feb 1975] 14908/75 Heading C7U Iron or steel surfaces are phosphated by spraying with a solution (pH 4À3 to 6À5) comprising (1 to 20 g/l) alkali metal or ammonium orthophosphate, 0À05 to 1 g/l of short chain alkanol amine, e.g. meno-di- or triethanolamine and corresponding propanol amines, 0À01 to 1À5 g/l of nonionic wetting agent, and (0À05 to 5 g/l) accelerator e.g. nitrites, perborates, bromates, hydroxylamines, molybdates or organic nitro compounds, e.g. nitrobenzoic acid, nitro guanidine, nitro resorcin and nitrated benzene-sulphonic acids. The solution may also contain aliphatic or aromatic monocarboxylic acids, e.g. benzoic, capronic, caprylic, or capric acids. The wetting agent may be an ethylene or propylene oxide-phenol, fatty alcohol or acid amide reaction product. The process may be in two stages, the second stage using more orthophosphate. Pyro-and polyphosphates may also be added to the solution. |
