titleOfInvention | Tris-(2-hydroxyaryl)esters of cyanuric acid |
abstract | 1499621 Tris - (2 - hydroxyaryl) esters of cyanuric acid BAYER AG 5 March 1976 [6 March 1975] 08910/76 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of general formula in which is an aromatic radical with a hydroxyl group in the 2-position to the ether oxygen, R is alkyl, phenyl, halogen, nitro, hydroxy, alkoxy or phenoxy and n is 0 or 1, or is 2, 3 or 4 in which case one R on each aryl radical has the abovementioned meaning and each further R on that aryl radical is, independently, alkyl. These compounds may be made by reacting a 1,2-dihydroxyaryl compound Rn-Ar-(OH) 2 with cyanogen halide (e.g. the chloride) in a solvent and a hydrogen halide acceptor. Suitable solvents include water, C 1 -C 6 aliphatic alcohols, aromatic - hydrocarbons, aliphatic chlorinated hydrocarbons or mixtures, thereof. The acceptor is for example a tertiary amine or an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide or carbonate. The aromatic group is for example phenyl, naphthyl or phenanthryl. The compounds of the invention can be used as cross-linking agents for polymers and as U.V. absorbers. |
