titleOfInvention Process for the manufacture of open-pore shaped articles
abstract 1499171 Porous acetalized polyvinyl alcohols HOECHST AG 7 March 1975 [7 March 1974] 9583/75 Headings C3C and C3P An open pore shaped article of acetalized polyvinyl alcohol having chemically bonded, via acetal bridges, polyethylene glycol or polyacrylamide is made by an acid catalysed acetalization in aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol in the presence of polyethylene glycol or polyacrylamide as pore-former which is subsequently washed out of the reaction mixture. In the examples aqueous mixtures of polyvinyl alcohol and formaldehyde were reacted in the presence of polyethylene glycol or polyacrylamide, which may be branched, and sulphuric acid to form sponges which were washed with water.
