titleOfInvention Production of aromatic polyamides
abstract 1497480 Aromatic polyamides SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 4 Sept 1975 [9 Sept 1974] 36504/75 Heading C3R Aromatic polyamides are produced by the liquid phase polycondensation in N-methylpyrrolidone and/or dimethylacetamide as solvent of an aromatic diamine and a a dicarboxylic acid or an aromatic aminoacid in the presence of (a) a phosphorous compound R<SP>4</SP>-P (OR<SP>5</SP>) 2 , (b) a tertiary amine and (c) anhydrous Li and/or Ca halide. In (a) R<SP>5</SP> is aryl, unsubstituted or substituted by C 1-6 alkyl or alkoxy, phenyl, Ha, NO 2 or CN and R<SP>4</SP> is OR<SP>5</SP>, OH, C 1-6 alkyl or R<SP>5</SP>, In specific examples the monomers are m or p-aminobenzoic acid or is ophetalic acid and p-phenylene diamine or di-(4-aminophenyl)-ether or -methane ; (a) is di- or triphenyl or tritolyl phosphate or ethyl diphenyl phosphonite (C 2 H 5 -P(OC 6 H 5 ) 2 ; (b) is pyridine; and (c) LiCl or CuCl 2 . General reference is made to other monomers (including aliphatic acids) and compounds (a) and (b).
