abstract 1496879 Waterproofing paper LAPORTE INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 Dec 1974 [21 Dec 1973] 59301/73 Heading DIP Cellulosic materials are waterproofed by treating them with a dispersion of an N - acylated cyclic imide which is substituted by an aliphatic hydrophobic group comprising a group which has a chain length of at least 11 carbon atoms and which is free of hydrophilic - substituents, at a temperature sufficiently high for the cyclic imide to react with the cellulosic material. In examples paper is treated both during and after preparation with emulsions containing in addition to conventional ingredients, N - stearoylsuccinimide, N - stearoyl - glutarimide, N - acetylhexadecylsuccinimide, N - lauroyl - succinimide, N - myristoylsuccinimide, N - palmitoyl - succinimide, N - behenoylsuccinimide, N - stearoyl - 4 - cyclohexene - 1, 2 - dicarboximide, N - stearoyl - phthalimide, N - stearoyl - 3, 6 - endo oxo - 4 - cyclohexene - 1, 2 - dicarboximide and N - stearoyl - cyclohexane - 1, 2 - dicarboximide.
