titleOfInvention Electrical cable
abstract 1493227 Power cable AMP Inc 27 July 1976 [4 Aug 1975] 31172/76 Heading H1A A power cable comprises a central conductor, e.g. copper stands 3 possibly with a semiconducting layer 4 of carbon loaded polyethylene thereover, a layer 5 of dielectric, e.g. polyethylene over the conductor, a cover 6, e.g. of airpermeable polyester cloth surrounding and spaced from layer 5 to prevent dust entering and spacer means, e.g. a helical rib 8 between the dielectric 5 and cover, the space between layer 5 and cover 6 containing air at atmospheric pressure. The spacing means may also be a bellows like member (Fig. 3, not shown), a series of annular discs or an air-containing foam mass. The spacer means need not be bonded to the outer cover, the flexibility of the cable thus being improved. The insulation is provided by layer 5 while the dust-free air prevents corona discharge at the surface of layer 5.
