abstract 1491396 Carbonic acid esters ROHM GmbH 7 May 1976 [9 May 1975] 18899/76 Heading C2C [Also in Division Cl] Carbonic acid esters of formula wherein R represents a methyl, ethyl or propyl group, are prepared by reacting an alcohol, ROH, with carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a catalyst complex formed from copper-I-chloride with vanadium, chromium, iron, or aluminium trichloride, cobalt-II- chloride or silicon tetrachloride. Further complexes formed during the reaction from these complexes and for example with methanol may also be used. Air may be used as the oxygen source and the process may be continuous.
