abstract 1490797 1,2,4-Oxa- and thia-diazolin-5-one and -5-thione derivatives BASF AG 4 Feb 1975 [5 Feb 1974] 4694/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] Novel compounds of Formula I wherein R denotes C 1-20 alkyl optionally substituted by one or more of F, Cl, Br, NO 2 , C 2-8 dialkylamino, C 1-4 alkylamino and/or C 1-4 alkoxy or R denotes aralkyl or aryl each optionally substituted by one or more of the above-mentioned substituents, X denotes O or S, Y denotes O or S and Z denotes NH 2 , C 1-4 alkylamino, C 2-8 dialkylamino or C 1-4 alkoxy are prepared by reacting the corresponding compound of Formula II with a chloroformic acid derivative of formula Cl-CO-Z at 0-140‹ C. in the presence of an acid-binding agent and optionally in the presence of an inert organic solvent. Alternatively, the alkali metal salts of starting materials II may be used in place of II + acidbinding agent. A further method of preparation of compounds of Formula I, in which X and Y are each oxygen and Z is amino or C 1-4 alkylamino, consists in reacting cyanic acid or a C 1-4 alkyl isocyanate with II in an organic solvent in the presence of a tertiary amine at 0-60‹ C. The compounds of Formula I are fungicides.
