| abstract | 1490073 Stabilizing polymers RAYCHEM CORP 11 Oct 1974 [11 Oct 1973] 44269/74 Heading C3P Polymers may be stabilized with antioxidant compositions comprising a mixture of (a) a hydroxy aromatic compound containing at least one sulphur atom attached to an unsaturated cyclic group and (b) a non-metallic salt or a diester of an organic phosphonic acid. Alternatively the groups may be present in a single compound. The polymers may be polymers or copolymers of ethylene and/or propylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride or fluoride, chlorinated polyethylene or an acrylic, polyether or polyester resin, and may be in the form of shaped articles, particularly heatrecoverable articles of cross-linked polymer. Examples describe the stabilizing of polyethylene, optionally in admixture with (III) ethylene /ethyl acrylate copolymer and EPDM copolymer, with antioxidant mixtures comprising (b) di - n - octadecyl - (3 - t - butyl - 4 - hydroxy- 5-methylbenzyl)phosphonate or diamyl amylphosphonate and (a) 2,2<SP>1</SP>-thiobis-(4-methyl-6-tbutylphenol), 4,4<SP>1</SP> - thiobis - (6 - t - butyl - mcresol) and oligomers thereof, 4,4<SP>1</SP>-thiobis-(6-tbutyl-o-cresol), 1,1<SP>1</SP>-thiobis naphthol or a reaction product of 3 moles 4,4<SP>1</SP>-thiobis-(6-t-butylm-cresol) with 1À05 moles phosphorus oxychloride. |
