titleOfInvention | N-methylol-chloroacetamide |
abstract | 1489716 Concentrated N-methylol-chloroacetamide solutions BAYER AG 22 July 1976 [23 July 1975 9 March 1976] 30608/76 Heading C2C Solutions containing up to 45 wt. per cent of N - methylol - chloroacetamide are prepared by treating a solution containing 20-85 wt. per cent of chloroacetic acid methyl ester in isopropanol, with NH 3 at -20 to +10 C., adding water and basic catalyst, and reacting the resulting mixture with H.CHO at 60- 120 C. The concentration of the chloroacetic acid ester is usually 50-60 wt. per cent and the molar ratio of NH 3 : ester is 1-1À1 : 1 and of HCHO : ester 1-1À5 : 1. Preferably 40-50 wt. per cent of water is used relative to the ester and 2-5 wt. per cent of catalyst. The NH 3 treatment is usually conducted at 0-5 C. and the HCHO treatment at 80-90 C., e.g. using paraformaldehyde. In the example a solution containing 40 wt. per cent N-methylolchloroacetamide is produced. |
