titleOfInvention | 2-phenyl-indole derivatives and processes for preparing the same and their use for stabilizing vinyl chloride polymers and copolymers |
abstract | 1489685 2-Phenyl-indole derivatives LABAZ 19 May 1975 [5 June 1974] 21328/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises compounds of Formula V wherein R 4 , R 5 , R 6 and R 7 have the following meanings: R 4 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group, a methyl or a methoxy radical, R 5 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group, a branched- or straight-chain alkyl group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, a cyclohexyl radical, a benzyloxy radical, a methoxy radical or an ethoxy radical, R 6 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group, a methyl radical, a branched- or straight-chain alkoxy group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, a benzyloxy radical or, together with R 5 , an alkylenedioxy radical containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, R 7 represents a hydrogen atom, a methyl or a methoxy radical with the proviso that in any single compound: (1) at least two of R 4 , R 5 , R 6 and R 7 are other than an alkyl or cyclohexyl group, (2) one or two of R 4 , R 5 , R 6 and R, are hydrogen atoms, (3) R 5 and R 7 are other than a methoxy group when R 6 is a methoxy group, (4) R 4 is other than a hydroxy group when R 7 is a methyl radical. These compounds may be prepared by reacting an acetophenone derivative of formula with phenylhydrazone, and cyclizing the resulting hydrazone with a dehydrating agent, e.g. polyphosphoric acid, sulphuric acid or zinc chloride), or by thermolysis; (b) by reacting a substituted acetophenone derivative where X is halogen, e.g. Cl or Br, with analine; (c) by demethylating a compound of Formula V in which one of the substituents is methoxy, to give a hydroxy group, or (d) methylating a compound of Formula V in which one of the substituents is hydroxy, to give a methoxy group. Compounds of Formula V and related compounds may be used as stabilizers for vinyl chloride polymers. |
