abstract 1488715 Stabilizing polymers B F GOODRICH CO 14 Oct 1974 [15 Oct 1973] 44358/74 Heading C3P Polymers are stabilized against oxidative and/or thermal degradation with stabilizers comprising (1) a hydroxyphenylalkyl isocyanurate of formula where R<SP>1</SP> is where m is 1 to 4, r 1 is C 1-18 alkyl ortho to the hydroxyl group, r 2 , r 3 and r 4 are H or C 1-18 alkyl, and R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>111</SP> are H, C 1-18 alkyl or as R<SP>1</SP>; and (2) a thiophosphorus compound selected from (a) (R 2 S) 2 PSR 1 where R 1 is C 8-20 alkyl and R 2 is R 1 or both R 2 radicals are linked so as to form with the -SPS- a 5 to 8 atom ring, or (b) where n is 0 to 9, R is C 1-20 alkylene, optionally interrupted by O or S, C 5-6 cycloalkylene or C 6-10 arylene, R 3 is C 1-20 alkyl and Y is nothing or oxygen. Many suitable stabilizer components and polymers are listed and examples describe the stabilizing of polypropylene with stabilizers selected from (1) 1,3,5-tris(3,5-di-t-butyl-4- hydroxybenzyl) isocyanurate and (2) tetrakis- (dodecylthio) - 1,6 - dithiohexylene diphosphite and tris(dodecylthio)phosphite.
