titleOfInvention | Process for obtaining salts of sulpho-acids from lignite tar oils |
abstract | Lignite tar oil is agitated with a small quantity of cold strong sulphuric acid to remove polymerizable substances and then with a larger quantity of the acid at a higher temperature to effect sulphonation. The oil layer is agitated with hot dilute caustic soda lye, and after separation from the oil, the sodium sulphonates are precipitated by addition of common salt. A little water is added to the sulphuric acid layer to remove the excess sulphuric acid, the remaining acid resins are dissolved in a large quantity of water, filtered, and a small amount of common salt is added. After separating the impure salts thus precipitated, the sodium salts of the sulphonic acids are obtained by treatment of the filtrate with a larger quantity of salt, and are purified by treatment with permanganates. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers also to the purification of the sodium salts by a further fractional precipitation, or by alcohol. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
