Cephalexin forms sparingly soluble complex compounds with unsubstituted or halogen-, hydroxyl-, nitro-, alkyl- or alkanoyl-substituted naphthalene, and these can readily be removed. To obtain the cephalexin or salts thereof, they can be readily digested with a metal hydroxide or an acid. The process allows cephalexin to be isolated with high purity and high yield from solutions which contain dissolved impurities. |
