titleOfInvention Process for stabilizing protein containing liquids
abstract 1486787 Stabilising protein-containing liquids BEHRINGWERKE AG 23 Oct 1974 [23 Oct 1973 6 Sept 1974] 45947/74 Heading A5B [Also in Division C3] A process for stabilising a protein-containing liquid derived from a plant or an animal, e.g. a plant or animal organ extract or serum, comprises treating the liquid with from 3 to 6% by weight, referred to the protein content of the liquid, of a water-soluble salt of an 'acridine or quinoline compound, separating the resulting precipitate, and removing any free acridine or quinoline compound still present in the resulting solution, as by adsorption on active charcoal or bentonite, The resulting stabilized liquid may be sterile filtered into ampoules and lyophilized. A stabilized human or animal serum of which at least one of the components has been determined and standardised, may be employed as a reference standard serum. Many protein-containing liquids are particularly mentioned. Preferred compounds are 2-ethoxy-6, 9-diaminoacridine lactate or bis-(2-methyl-4-amino-quinolyl-6)-carbamide hydrochloride. Contact times of 10-30 minutes are usual. Examples relate to the stabilization of the following proteincontaining liquids: anti-A-serum (human), AB- serum (human), anti-P 1 -serum (wether), antihaptoglobin serum (rabbit), anti-alpha 1 -lipoprotein serum (rabbit); anti-# 2 -glycoprotein serum (rabbit), anti-IgA-serum (sheep or goat) and an aqueous extract of Dolichos biflorus obtained according to known methods for the preparation of phytagglutinin anti-A 1 .
