titleOfInvention | Unsaturated polyester resins containing additional accelerators |
abstract | 1486049 Accelerators for curing unsaturated polyester resin compositions BAYER AG 21 Oct 1975 [15 Nov 1974] 43099/75 Heading C3P A moulding or coating composition comprises (A) a polymerizable composition consisting of 20-90% by weight of at least one α-# ethylenically unsaturated polyester and 80-10% by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound and based on the weight of (A), (B) 0À001 to 0À1% by weight of at least one polymerization inhibitor (C) 0À001 to 0À5% by weight of at least one accelerator and (D) 0À05 to 5% by weight of an additional accelerator having the formula where X is O, S or NR<SP>2</SP>; R<SP>1</SP> is a C 1 -C 8 aliphatic radical, OH NR 4 R 5 , cyclohexyl, cyclopentyl, C 1 -C 4 alkoxy radical or -COOR 3 ; R<SP>2</SP> is H, acetyl, benzoyl, phenyl a C 1 -C 8 aliphatic or a C 5 -C 8 cycloaliphatic radical; R 3 is H, a C 1 -C 8 aliphatic radical or an aromatic radical and R 4 and R 5 which may be the same or different are H, a C 1 -C 4 aliphatic radical, phenyl, cyclohexyl or together form a C 4 -C 8 cycloaliphatic radical and optionally (E) 0À01 to 10% of a paraffin or wax and/or (F) 1 to 10% by weight of an organic phosphine having up to 12 carbon atoms per organic radical, an aromatic phosphite having up to 12 carbon atoms per aromatic radical and/or a thioether; the composition being curable by 0À1 to 8% by weight based on the weight of A of a polymerization initiator. In the examples a mixture of styrene, a polyester prepared from propane diol, maleic anhydride; phthalic anhydride with or without thiodiglycol and toluhydroquinone is combined with cobalt octoate, a paraffin and one of N methyl 3 acetyl (3 carboxycarbonyl or carbethoxycarbonyl) 2 pyrollidone, 3 acetyl 2 pyrrolidone, α acetyl- or carbethoxy-carbonyl and butyrolactone or 3 carbethoxy-carbonyl 1 thia 2 cyclopentanone or for comparison ethyl acetoacetate, acetoacetic acid ethylene glycol ester, triacetylmethane, acetylacetone, acetoacetic N benzlamide or 2 acetylcyclopentanone and is applied to glass plates previously coated with a composition containing cyclohexanone peroxide, toluene, butyl acetate, ethyl acetate and nitrocellulose. |
