titleOfInvention Process for preparing stabilized oxymethylene copolymers
abstract 1482844 Stabilizing oxymethylene copolymers HOECHST AG 21 Feb 1975 [22 Feb 1974] 7348/75 Heading C3P Oxymethylene copolymers having heat and hydrolysis reistant terminal groups are prepared by heating a copolymer of 80 to 99À9 weight per cent of a cyclic oligomer of formaldehyde and 20 to 0À1 weight per cent of a compound copolymerizable with said oligomer and which forms monomer units having 2 to 8 adjacent carbon atoms, in a liquid phase at 130-200‹ C. and 4-10 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> for 10 sees. to 2 hours in the presence of a magnesium or calcium salt of a mono- or dicarboxylic acid having 3,4 or 5 carbon atoms, and if desired mixing the reaction product in the molten state with 0À1 to 10% of a heat, oxidation or light stabilizer. The reaction may be effected in the melt or in solution, preferably in a water/ alcohol mixture. In examples trioxane/ethylene oxide copolymers are heated with calcium lactate with and without calcium hydroxide, magnesium lactate and magnesium hydroxide, calcium malonate and calcium hydroxide, calcium propionate and calcium hydroxide, and calcium butyrate, the products being optionally further mixed with hexanediol di- (3,5, - di - t. - butyl - 4 - hydroxyphenyl propionate), calcium lactate and dicyandiamide.
