abstract 1482217 Absorbent pad for diapers JEYES GROUP Ltd 28 April 1975 [29 April 1974] 18714/74 Heading A5R [Also in Division B5] A diaper or diaper liner comprises two layers of a liquid pervious, knitted, woven or non-woven web containing therebetween a powdered liquid absorbing and retaining agent which is an alginate, a carragheenate, a carboxypolymethylene or an ethylene oxide crosslinked polyacrylic acid. Upon contact by water the agent forms a water retaining gel. The web material may be rayon or a heat sealable paper coated with polyethylene or P.V.C. Up to 5 gms of agent may be used and it is capable of absorbing 20-100 times its weight of water. The powder may be in the form of a layer or spots lines or writing applied to one of the webs. Up to 2% by weight and up to 5% by weight of a quaternary ammonium or phenolic germicide and perfume, respectively, may be incorporated. The diaper may be provided with a disposal bag.
