abstract | 1481857 Flame resistant polyesters CIBAGEIGY AG 12 Nov 1974 [13 Nov 1973] 48838/74 Heading C3R A flame-resistant linear polyester having a relative viscosity of 1À10 to 4À0 is derived from (a) terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid, succinic acid or adipic acid or ester-forming derivatives thereof and (b) a diol component comprising (i) 0À5 to 100 mol. per cent of a diol of the formula in which R 1 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or phenyl and R 2 is hydrogen or together with R 1 is a tetramethylene radical, X 1 and X 4 are hydrogen, chlorine or bromine and X 2 and X 3 are chlorine or bromine, and (ii) 0 to 99À5 mol. per cent of an alkylene glycol with 2 to 12 carbon atoms or 1,4- cyclohexanedimethanol. The polyester may contain glass fibres and antimony trioxide. The following reactants are used in the examples (a) dimethyl terephthalate and isophthalate, diphenyl terephthalate, terephthalic acid dichloride and diethyl succinate and (b) ethylene glycol, 1,4-butanediol, 1,12-dodecanediol and cyclohexanedimethanol and various diols of the above formula, e.g. 1,3-bis(2<SP>1</SP>-hydroxyethyl) - 4,5,6,7 - tetra - bromo or chloro benzimidazolone. |
