titleOfInvention Production of alkylmonosulphonates and alkylenedisulphonates
abstract A novel process for the production of alkylsulphonate compounds is described. In this process, an olefin having a carbon atom number of less than 10 is reacted in a solvent with a bisulphite of an alkali metal. This solvent consists of a mixture of water and at least one alcohol. The reaction proceeds in the presence of oxygen or of an oxygen-containing gas. An initiator is necessary which consists of a transition metal ion, selected from the group comprising the metals of groups I, VII and VIII, preferably from Cu, Mn, Fe and Co. In the above process, yields are virtually quantitative. The compounds obtained can be used in detergent formulations.
