1480738 Hydraulic fluids CASTROL Ltd 17 Sept 1974 [25 Sept 1973 14 Dec 1973] 44905/73 and 58175/73 Heading C5F [Also in Division C3]. Chlorine-free glycol alkyl silanes suitable for use in or as hydraulic fluids are prepared by reaction of a silane RXSiCl 2 with a diol or polyl and a glycol monoether wherein each R and R<SP>3</SP> is an alkyl group, R<SP>2</SP> is H, CH 3 - or C 2 H 5 -, X is H or an alkyl group and n is 1 to 10. They are useful as part or all of a hydraulic base stock or as addition they may be mixed with glycols and their ethers, esters and orthoesters, and with borate esters. Conventional hydraulic fluid additives may be added-many are specified. In Examples 1-25, silanes are obtained by adding 1 mole of mono-, di-, or tri-ethylene glycol, or of propylene glycol, or of a polyethylene glycol or polypropylene glycol or of neopentyl glycol, trimethylolpropane, or quinol, as the diol or polyol, with 2 moles of pyridine, to 2 moles of Me 2 SiCl 2 or MeSiCl 3 in toluene, followed by 2À2 moles each of pyridine and the monomethyl ether of di- or tri-ethylene glycol or of dipropylene glycol. |
