titleOfInvention Microencapsulation process
abstract 1478788 Microencapsulation FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 9 April 1975 [9 April 1974] 14642/75 Heading B8C In an encapsulation process for producing microcapsules by complex co-acervation, the material used for forming the microcapsule walls comprises 100 parts by weight of gelatin and from 5 to 200 parts by weight of a copolymer containing units derived from acrylic acid methacrylic acid or a salt thereof, the copolymer having an electric charge opposite that of gelatin. The copolymer contains at least one monomer represented by the formula I wherein R<SP>1</SP> represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and M represents a hydrogen atom or an atom or a group capable of forming a water-soluble salt of the monomer of formula I; and at least one monomer represented by the formula II wherein X represents a hydrogen atom, a methyl group of a -CH 2 COOR<SP>2</SP> group, R<SP>2</SP> being an aliphatic group; and Y represents a -COOR<SP>2</SP> group, a cyano group, an aryl group, an acyloxy group, a group, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> each being separately a hydrogen atom, an acetyl group or an aliphatic group, or together form a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring, a -CONHCH 2 OR<SP>5</SP> group, or a group, R<SP>5</SP> being a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic group exemplified copolymers are of acrylic acid and acrylamide, methacrylic acid and acrylamide, acrylic acid and ethyl acrylate and butyl acrylate, acrylamide and methacrylic acid. A water soluble polymer such as polyvinyl alcohol, may also be present.
