abstract 1478469 Antibiotic compositions containing ansamycins PFIZER INC 6 Sept 1974 [9 Jan 1974] 39106/74 Heading ASB [Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions having antibiotic activity comprise, as active ingredient, a mixture obtained by cultivating Micromonospora lacustris sp. nov. Routien (ATCC 21975) or a mutant strain (ATCC 21974) under submerged aerobic conditions in an aqueous nutrient medium containing an assimilable source of carbon and nitrogen until substantial antibiotic activity is obtained and separating the antibiotic products, or a component of the said mixture which is 3-methylthiorifamycin S or SV, or a hexahydro derivative of the said component, in admixture with at least one pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The antibiotic mixture contains rifamycin S and SV. The compositions may be administered orally or parenterally as tablets, suspensions, elixirs or solutions.
