titleOfInvention Liquid unsaturated resin compositions
abstract 1478141 Liquid unsaturated resins KANSAI PAINT CO Ltd 12 June 1974 [13 June 1973] 26153/74 Heading C3P A liquid unsaturated resin composition comprises from 5 to 40% by weight of a polyvinyl or polyvinylidene monomer of high boiling point and 95 to 60% of a liquid resin produced by adding a compound having both an epoxy group and a polymerizable unsaturated group to a linear polyester having terminal carboxyl groups, the linear polyester being produced by condensation of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and/or anhydride thereof and aliphatic and/or alicyclic saturated compounds comprising a saturated aliphatic and/or alicyclic dicarboxylic acid and/or acid anhydride thereof and a saturated aliphatic glycol. Specified compounds containing both an epoxy group and a polymerizable unsaturated group are glycidyl(meth)- acrylate and glycidyl allyl ether. Examples are given in which (a) a polyester produced from hexahydrophthalic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, adipic acid, neopentyl glycol and 1,3- butylene glycol is reacted with glycidyl acrylate before being mixed with 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate, benzoin methyl ether and, optionally, TiO 2 , the mixture being applied to an iron plate and the resulting coating subjected to U.V. radiation; (2) a polyester produced from hexahydrophthalic anhydride, isophthalic acid and 1,6-hexanediol is reacted with glycidyl methacrylate before being mixed with 1,3-butylene glycol dimethacrylate, the mixture being applied to an iron plate and the resulting coating subjected to radiation from an electron beam; (3) a polyester produced from cyclodecanediol disuccinic ester, phthalic anhydride, sebacic acid, ethylene glycol and 1.6-hexanediol is reacted with glycidyl methacrylate before being mixed with trimethylolpropane triacrylate to form a mixture which is applied and cured as in (2).
