titleOfInvention | Yellow-forming couplers containing hydantoin groups and their use in photographic materials |
abstract | 1477410 Hydantoin derivatives of yellowforming colour couplers FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 3 April 1975 [3 April 1974] 13788/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division G2] Compounds of the formula wherein Q represents the residue of a yellowforming coupler having an active methylene group attached to the group -Z, and Z represents a group of the formula wherein X<SP>1</SP> represents a hydrogen atom, an optionally substituted alkyl group, an optionally substituted aryl group, a heterocyclic group or an acyl group, X<SP>2</SP> represents a hydrogen atom, an optionally substituted alkyl group, or an optionally substituted aryl group, X<SP>3</SP> represents a hydrogen atom, an optionally substituted alkyl group, an optionally substituted aryl group or an acyl group, or X<SP>2</SP> and X<SP>3</SP> together complete a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring, and Y represents an oxygen or sulphur atom, may be prepared by reacting a compound of the formula Q-P, where P is a halogen atom, with an appropriate hydantoin in the presence of a base. The reaction is suitably effected in an organic solvent at 10-70 C. and the base employed may be either organic or inorganic. Preferred coupler compounds are of the openchain ketomethylene type, e.g. α-acylacetamide couplers, preferably having the formula or bis-derivatives thereof, preferably of the formulµ or wherein R<SP>1</SP> represents an optionally substituted aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group, R<SP>2</SP> represents an optionally substituted aromatic or heterocyclic group, and R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> represent divalent groups corresponding to R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> respectively. The couplers may be employed in a range of photographic materials. |
