abstract 1476165 Phenyl derivatives F HOFFMANN LA ROCHE & CO AG 16 Aug 1974 [17 Aug 1973] 36178/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein R 1 represents an alkyl group containing 3 to 6 carbon atoms, R 2 represents H or an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, A and B together represent an additional bond or an oxygen bridge, C and D each represent H or together represent an additional bond and n is 1 or 2, with the proviso that when R 1 is isobutyl R 2 is methyl and n is 1, C and D each represent H. The compounds may be prepared by reacting together compounds of the formulae where Z represents Cl, Br, I or a tosyloxy or mesyloxy group and M is an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal, (b) hydrogenating a compound of Formula I wherein A and B together represent an oxygen bridge and C and D together represent an additional bond or (c) epoxidizing a compound of Formula I wherein A and B together represent an additional bond.
