titleOfInvention Hydrosulphite-based compositions
abstract 1474398 Treating textiles DIAMOND SHAMROCK CORP 14 Aug 1974 [15 Aug 1973] 35801/74 Headings D1B and D1P A stable hydrosulphite composition for addition to water for bleaching fabrics and scouring dried fabrics to remove non fixed dye comprises a dry particulate homogeneous mixture containing, by weight (A) 14 to 40 parts of a hydrosulphite selected from alkali metal, zinc or ammonium hydrosulphite or mixtures thereof (based on an assay value of 100%); (B) 15 to 30 parts of a pH builder selected from sodium carbonate and/or sodium bicarbonate, (C) 15 to 40 parts of a pH buffer selected from trisodium phosphate, sodium tripolyphosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, sodium silicate and borax; and (D) up to 2 parts of a thermal stabiliser for the hydrosulphite. Preferably the thermal stabiliser is the sodium benzoate. The composition may also comprise 0-15 parts of a specified amphoteric, anionic or nonionic detergent, and a defoamer selected from stearic acid, calcium stearate, aluminium stearate and an amide. The composition is used in the form of an aqueous solution to scour polyester yarn and polyester double knit fabric dyed with anthraquinone or mono azo disperse dyes. In a further example, acrylic/wool blend socks in the greige state were soxhlet extracted with isopropanol to remove oil, scoured with detergent, bleached with aqueous hydrogen peroxide and bleached again with the composition of the invention.
